Retail & Leisure
What We Do
We advise on your company structure and shareholder arrangements, contracts with suppliers and concession partners, employment matters and settlement agreements, recovering unpaid accounts, the leases on the units you trade from, and buying or selling the business itself.
Why We’re Experts
Retail runs on people and margin. A manager leaving badly, staff transferring with a site, or a supplier quietly changing terms mid-contract can each cost more in a year than the rent does — and none of them are property problems.
How we work with you
One named contact across every strand, so your corporate, employment and property advice joins up rather than arriving from three different directions.
Frequently Asked
Questions
We’re taking on a new unit. When should we speak to a solicitor?
Before heads of terms are agreed, ideally. Once the commercial terms are settled it becomes much harder to change the points that matter most – repairing obligations, service charge exposure and whether you can get out early if the site underperforms.
Can you help with staff issues as well as property and contracts?
Yes. We advise on employment matters and settlement agreements alongside the commercial and property side, so if a site transfer raises staffing questions you are not briefing two different firms on the same situation.
A supplier or concession partner owes us money. Is it worth pursuing?
Often, yes, and frequently without court proceedings. We will look at the paperwork, tell you honestly how strong your position is and explain what recovery is likely to involve before you spend anything chasing it.
We’re thinking about selling the business. Where do we start?
With preparation. Buyers will want to see your leases, supplier contracts, employment records and company documents. Getting those in order early tends to shorten the sale and reduce the number of points a buyer can negotiate on.
How much will it cost?
We will explain the likely cost once we understand what is involved. Where a fixed fee is available, we will confirm what is included before work begins.
